This gold leather marble sketchbook showcases the beauty of traditional Venetian craftmanship. Book production was a natural art for Venetians who were already skilled in working with leather paper pigments, and gold leaf. From Venice the tradition of decorative marbling moved to the south of Florence, where it flourished.

The practice of marbling with colorful patterns that imitate marble veining originated in China.
