This journal's binding reproduces the covers of the illuminated book De sideribus tractatus, a 15th-century manuscript copy of the ancient De astronomia. Though the 1st-century BCE original is long lost, it has been kept alive by the scribes and miniaturists who reproduced it. This fascinating book is now a part of The New York Public Library's Spencer Collection.
